Rachel's Tomb
Rachel's Tomb
Rachel's Tomb (or in Hebrew: קבר רחל, pronounced "Kever Rakhel"), is an ancient structure believed to be the burial place of the biblical matriarch Rachel. The tomb is located near Bethlehem in the West Bank.
Religious Significance
The tomb is considered a Jewish holy site. It is also viewed as the symbol of the return of the Jewish people to its ancient homeland, and for generations, Jews living outside Israel have hung a picture of the structure in their homes. The shrine has been increasingly associated with fertility and many women go to pray there for a successful childbirth. Many a prayerbook geared towards women would feature a photo of the site on its cover or title page.
